Improved performance
NVivo runs faster: We have optimized the way NVivo stores and accesses data, so that NVivo runs faster. You may notice that NVivo is faster when you open, save and close projects, or when you are coding, auto coding, opening nodes, running queries and deleting project items.
Better performance when working with large amounts of data: Large sources and nodes open faster. Large nodes (200+ references) are now displayed in sections (or blocks) of 100 references in node Detail View. This means that nodes open quickly, regardless of size. Queries run faster, even as project size increases.
Larger project sizes: The maximum project size for standalone projects has been increased to 10 GB (previously 4 GB).
Usability improvements
Query Wizard (Service Pack 3 and later): The new Query Wizard provides an easy way to create Text Search, Word Frequency, Coding and Matrix Coding queries.
Improvements to the ribbon: The new Query tab makes queries easier to find, and there are minor changes to the size and position of commands on other tabs, so that frequently used commands are more prominent.
Minimize the ribbon with one click: A new command has been added to the ribbon, so that you can minimize or maximize the ribbon with a single click.
Access the context menus via keyboard: You can now press SHIFT+F10 to access context (right-click) menus.
Work with Detail View on the right: Do you prefer to work with the Detail View on the right? NVivo now 'remembers' the position of the Detail View—and whenever you launch NVivo, the Detail View will be where it was the last time you used the software.
Detail View close button: Each Detail View tab now has its own close button to make it easier to close Detail View windows.
More screen tips: If you hover your mouse over the Navigation View groups or folders or hover over the Quick Coding bar labels, a brief description is provided in a screen tip.
Improved dialog box labels: The labelling on some dialog boxes has been improved to make them easier to understand.
Get your media professionally transcribed
Capture web pages and social media data
NCapture: This web browser extension for Internet Explorer or Google Chrome is optionally installed with the NVivo software. You can use NCapture to capture web pages or social media data and then import this content into NVivo for analysis.
Import web pages: Use NCapture to gather web pages and online PDFs, and then import them into NVivo as PDF sources.
Import Facebook wall posts and comments: Use NCapture to gather Facebook wall posts and comments from people, organizations or groups, and then import them into NVivo as dataset sources.
Import LinkedIn discussions: Use NCapture to gather LinkedIn group discussions that are relevant to your research, and then import them into NVivo as dataset sources.
Import Tweets: Use NCapture to gather Tweets from Twitter—for example, Tweets that include a particular word, phrase or hashtag, or Tweets by a particular user—and then import them into NVivo as a dataset source.
Work with YouTube videos (Service Pack 2 and later): Use NCapture to collect YouTube videos. You will need an Internet connection, Internet Explorer 8 (or later) and Flash Player to play YouTube videos in NVivo.
Automatically code social media data: NVivo provides automatic coding features to quickly group social media data—for example, group Facebook wall posts by conversation, LinkedIn posts and comments by username or group Tweets by hashtag.
Visualize social media data: NVivo provides visualizations for Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube datasets to help you see patterns in your data. For example, in a Twitter dataset, click the Chart tab to compare activity over time or compare users based on the number of followers they have.
Geovisualize social media data (Service Pack 2 and later): Use the new Map tab to see the geographical location of commentators in your social media data.
Work with data from Evernote or Microsoft OneNote
Import Evernote content: Do you use Evernote to take notes, record interviews, collect images or clip web pages? You can bring your Evernote content into NVivo for analysis.
Collect data on mobile devices (with Evernote): You can connect to your Evernote account from within NVivo (Service Pack 5 and later) and have easy access to the data you collect on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
Import your Evernote tags: If you tag your notes to categorize them in Evernote, you can convert the tags to nodes and coding when you import your notes
Import your Microsoft OneNote pages (Service Pack 1 and later): The NVivo Add-In for OneNote is optionally installed with the NVivo software. If you use OneNote to gather notes, images or keep track of ideas, you can use the add-in to export this content and bring it into your NVivo project.
General enhancements
Automatic creation of project recovery files to protect project data (Service Pack 6 and later): You can set options for how frequently project recovery files are created. System administrators can specify a default location for project recovery files during a command line installation—refer to the Technical Resource Centre for more information.
Exchange projects with NVivo 10 for Mac (available in NVivo 10 for Windows Service Pack 5 and later): You can open, copy to, copy from, import and export NVivo 10 for Mac (.nvpx) project files.
Auto code based on existing coding patterns (Service Pack 4 and later): This experimental feature enables you to do 'broad-brush' coding of large volumes of text quickly, which you can then review and refine.
Word Frequency queries for Chinese (Service Pack 4 and later): You can now use Word Frequency queries to find how often words occur in Chinese text.
Direct import from SurveyMonkey (Service Pack 3 and later): Do you use SurveyMonkey to collect survey responses? You can now import them directly into your project for analysis.

Change the user interface language (Service Pack 2 and later): NVivo is available in English, Chinese (Simplified Chinese), French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
Spell check your sources: If you work with documents, memos, transcripts, framework matrices and picture logs, you can now check the spelling of these source materials within NVivo. You can also check spelling in your annotations.
Custom dictionaries: Do your source materials include specialized terms? You can add these words to a custom dictionary, so they are not flagged as spelling errors. You can also spell check in a wide range of languages—if NVivo does not provide a built-in dictionary for the language, you can provide your own custom dictionary.
More audio and video formats: Do you work with audio created on mobile devices, or high definition (HD) video? NVivo now provides support for m4a audio files, or video files in 3gp, mts or m2ts formats.
New Coding Summary Reports: NVivo now provides two predefined coding summary reports that include your coded text.
Drag and drop coding: You can now use 'drag and drop' coding to code selected content from cells in datasets, audio and video transcripts and picture logs. This means you can use 'drag and drop' coding to code all types of source content.
Print coding stripes on the same page: You can now choose to print coding stripes on the same page when you print documents, memos, externals and nodes.
Additional stop words: Word Frequency query results now contain more relevant terms, because additional stop words are now provided for English (UK) and English (US).
Find next or previous highlighted reference: This feature is now available for all types of sources and for all tabs of the Node Detail View.
Find nodes that code other nodes: You can now use Advanced Find to find all the theme nodes that code a case node, or find case nodes that are coded at a theme.
Create 100% stacked bar and column charts: These new chart types are useful when you want to compare the percentage that each value contributes to the total for the bars or columns.
EndNote support: You can now import references from EndNote X5 and X6.
